How to Stay Motivated to Workout Year Round

It’s easy to be motivated to work out with summer right around the corner, but how do you make sure fitness remains a priority during the rest of the year? Though working out is essential to staying healthy, there will be times when you’d rather not go to the gym. If you need some serious fitness motivation, try these ideas for inspiration:

1. Set Your Fitness Goals

Whether you’re preparing to run a marathon or just hoping to lose a few pounds, setting your fitness goals will help you stay focused throughout the year. Set simple goals at first to keep yourself motivated. As you progress further towards your fitness ideals, set higher goals.

2. Make Fitness Fun

No one wants to do something that is boring, which is the reason most people tire of working out. If you’ve associated negative things with working out, now is the time to change that. Make fitness fun by switching up your typical workout routine. Sign up for a dance class, join a basketball team, or run in different areas around your city—whatever you decide to do, make sure it’s something that you’re interested in.

3. Incorporate Fitness Into Your Daily Life

Fitting a fitness routine into your schedule can be difficult, but the more working out becomes part of your daily life, the easier it will be to do. Regardless of how busy you may be, there are ways to fit in small amounts of physical activity. Whether you take the stairs, do some exercises right before bed, or cycle to work instead of drive, finding a way to fit fitness in will make it easier to keep working out.

4. Remind Yourself Why You Workout

Seeing your goals in front of you will allow you to remember why you do what you do. Write down all the benefits of working out next to your goals. Remind yourself of this list everyday by reading them when you wake up. Each day, you’ll be able to see how far you’ve come, which will encourage you to keep going.

5. Be Flexible

Working out shouldn’t add additional stress to your life. Part of becoming motivated is being open to flexibility. If you find that you’re too tired to get to the gym, understand that it’s okay to take a break. Whenever you’re able to get back to working out, start aiming to reach your fitness goals again.

Once you’ve found your fitness motivation, get started as soon as possible. Let these five tips inspire you to get moving. Every step you make will get you one step closer to your fitness goals.
